Suspected 'human ashes' recovered from Hull funeral directors at centre of investigation

Humberside Police have given an update on their investigation

Humberside Police say a helpline set up as part of an investigation into a funeral directors in Hull has now received over a thousand calls from the public.

In a statement delivered this afternoon, Humberside Police Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin confirmed 35 bodies have been recovered from Legacy Independent Funeral Directors along with a 'quantity of what we suspect to be human ashes".

Formal identification is still ongoing.

The investigation into Legacy Independent Funeral Directors was sparked by reports of "concern for care of the deceased".

Two people arrested in connection with the investigation have been bailed.

A 46-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were held on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation and fraud by abuse of position.
