Greene King pubs selling pints for 6p to mark Platinum Jubilee
6p is the average price of a pint back in 1952 - the year the Queen took the throne
Brewer Greene King is turning the clock back 70 years today by selling its pints for 6p.
The special promotion, which is running today only (May 30th), is to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
6 pence is the average cost of a pint of beer back in 1952, the year Queen Elizabeth II took the throne.
Anyone visiting a Greene King Pub has to use the secret code word ‘1952’ at the bar to claim the offer. The offer is limited to one 6p pint per person.
You can find a list of participating pubs here.
It comes as pubs and bars across England and Wales have been granted extended opening hours over the upcoming four-day Jubilee bank holiday.
From Thursday (2 June) to Saturday (4 June) opening hours will be lengthened from 11pm to 1am.
Andrew Gallagher, marketing director at Greene King Local Pubs, said:
"The Platinum Jubilee is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and country, so we wanted to take our customers back to where it all began - 1952, a time when Vera Lynn ruled the charts and pints were only 6p.
"We can't wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday 30 May, and look forward to celebrating the platinum jubilee in all our pubs across the bank holiday weekend."
