A police officer has been charged after a crash which left a pedestrian seriously injured.

Greater Manchester Police constable Sam Lockley,34, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision in Rochdale on November 19, 2023.

A spokesman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which received a mandatory referral from the force, said an investigation established that Lockley was driving a marked police vehicle when he attempted to stop a suspected drunk driver on Drake Street, leading to a pursuit which lasted about a minute.

The police vehicle collided with a pedestrian on the footpath of Rochdale Road at about 3.30am, the spokesman said.

He added: "The pedestrian suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and has received extensive medical treatment since."

Lockley is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
