Five men rescued from HS2 construction ventilation shaft in West London

Emergency services were called to the scene yesterday morning

Five men have been rescued from a ventilation shaft at a HS2 construction site in West London.

Multiple fire appliances joined several ambulances and a Hazardous Area Response Team from the London Ambulance Service at a site in Mandeville Road in Northolt yesterday morning (Saturday 26th August).

London's Air Ambulance was also scrambled after the call for help was received at 9.46am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

“We treated five patients at the scene before conveying them to hospital as a priority."

A HS2 spokesperson has confirmed that the men suffered what its called 'cuts and bruises' in the incident and that an investigation has started.

No further details of the circumstances surrounding the incident have been made public.
