861 people have signed a petition - at the time of writing - calling on Boris Johnson to stop wearing a woolly hat that has the initials of Grimsby Town football club on it.

The petition's organiser, John Dale says Mr Johnson has no connection to Grimsby - and is bringing the town into "serious disrepute".

The petition is titled "Ban Boris Johnson from wearing Grimsby Town FC hat and shaming a community."

In the petition's description, it says; "Johnson has no formal connection to the club. He has never lived in Grimsby. He is using the town to add lustre and glamour to his own shattered life."

There are several reasons people have signed the petition, according to it's website.

Karen H wrote: "I totally agree with the community of Grimsby that Johnson is bringing shame to them by wearing the town's hat!. He is trying to look like a man of the people when he is the total opposite!."

Another, Richard V wrote: "The bloke is a disgrace."

Although the hat was allegedly gifted to him by Great Grimsby MP, Lia Nici, it has sparked outrage amongst locals.

Boris Johnson delivered two days of Covid testimony this week, he began proceedings by apologising for the 'pain and loss and the suffering' experienced by the families of those lost to the virus.
