The RSPCA are appealing for information after a dead dog - thought to be an XL bully - was found in Middlesbrough.

The dog, who was tan coloured, was found in Teare Close, in the Newport area of the city, on Saturday 15 June. The person who found the dog - a Neighbourhood Safety Officer from the council - took the body to a local vets, who contacted the RSPCA.

RSPCA Inspector Cathy Maddison said: “Intentional harm can’t be ruled out at this stage. The vets were concerned that the wounds on the dog’s head had been caused deliberately.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. The dog wasn’t microchipped so we are keen to speak to anyone who may know where this dog came from. We are following any lines of enquiry and asking people in the area to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

“It is heartbreaking that this may have been done deliberately because of the dog’s breed.”
