The world's largest off-shore wind farm has been granted planning permission off the Teesside coast.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Amber Rudd gave the green light to the Dogger Bank Teesside A&B project this afternoon.

The two sites will be 102 miles from the North East coastline and each will host 200 wind turbines, with the potential to power two million British homes a year.

It's believed the two sites will create 4,750 direct and indirect jobs and generate more than £1.5 billion for the British economy.

The power from the turbines is transported back to shore via cable Redcar and Marske.

The site is so large, it's the equivalent of all the existing off-shore wind farms in the UK combined.

Andy Guyton is Consent Manager at Forewind, the company behind the plans.

He said: "We've actually got a lot of support locally and around the region, especially given the strong connection with industry that the region has.

"We've actually worked very well with counsel and other stakeholders to develop a project that we're working through."
