Woman jailed for robbing a disabled man at a cash machine in Hartlepool
The 36-year-old also caused the victim to have a heart attack last May
A woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after an incident in Hartlepool when a man was robbed at a cash machine.
36-year-old Carley Harrison was found guilty of robbery by the courts on Friday 13th January.
The incident, on 27th May 2022, happened when a 50-year-old man who uses a wheelchair was withdrawing cash at a cash machine on Murray Street.
Carley Harrison approached him from behind and stole around £50. In the struggle to take the money she scratched and bit the man, who tried to hide his money under his body to prevent her from stealing it.
The victim then needed emergency medical attention after suffering a heart attack.
Detective Inspector Lou Sproson from Hartlepool CID said:
“This was a terrifying incident which no doubt had a huge impact on the victim. I praise him for his bravery throughout the investigation and the judicial process.
“I am pleased with the sentence handed to Carley Harrison. She will now spend a significant time behind bars as a result of her despicable actions.”
