Woman suffers serious leg injury after hit and run in Redcar

Police in Redcar are investigating, after an off road bike crashed into a woman - leaving her with a serious leg injury.

Police say it happened following a verbal altercation with a man on an off-road bike who was on a grassed area opposite Redcar Primary Care Hospital on West Dyke Road.

The 61 year old woman was walking her dogs along a pavement near to Lorton Road when the incident happened, between 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday 22nd August.

After the "verbal altercation" the bike collided with the woman, leaving her with a leg injury.

The rider on the blue and white off-road bike failed to stop. He was wearing a light coloured crash helmet, a grey long-sleeved hooded top and dark bottoms.

Members of the public assisted the woman, who required hospital treatment but is now recovering at home.

Police are now searching for the rider, and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
