Woman dies following crash near Thirsk

A 78 year old woman has died after it's believed she was hit by a car whilst walking near Thirsk.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries yesterday in Carlton Miniott

The 80 year old man driving the car was arrested at the scene but has since been released on police bail.

He wasn't seriously hurt.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

"At around 2pm yesterday, Wednesday 9 July, we were called to Carlton Road in Carlton Miniott following a report that a grey Kia Sportage car had collided with a pedestrian.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the pedestrian, a 78-year-old woman from Thirsk, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

"The driver of the vehicle, an 80-year-old man, also from Thirsk, was uninjured. He was arrested at the scene and has since been released on police bail."
