Woman in critical condition after car ploughs into Darlington house

A woman remains in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car in Darlington yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened shortly before 5pm on Easson Road in the town, when a Hyundai Coupe car left the road, flipped over onto its side and crashed into the victim, who was on the pavement at the time.

The car also collided heavily with two other parked vehicles and the front of a house in the street, causing considerable damage.

The suspected driver, a 25-year-old local man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and being a disqualified driver. He remains in custody at Darlington police station.

The victim, who is thought to be in her forties is still in the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Police have not yet been able to confirm her identity or home address, and officers from the collision investigation unit (CIU) are appealing for anyone who can help with those details to contact them on 0191 375 2159.

Sgt Jonathan Morgan, from the CIU said;

“We understand there may have been other witnesses, including people who assisted the victim at the scene. If we haven’t already spoken to you, please contact us in the unit so we can get the relevant details.”
