UK Heatwave leads to wildfires across Teesside and County Durham

Control rooms at Cleveland Fire Brigade and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue say they're bracing themselves for another busy day as the heatwave continues.

Crews have been tackling a fire in Stockton in the early hours of this morning, and yesterday more wildfires broke out across the region,

Multiple crews dealt with a large fire in Brandon, County Durham, and managed to keep it under control.

Meanwhile other incidents were reported in Skelton and on the A66 near the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough.

We are being urged to support fire services as much as possible and be careful with things like disposing of barbecues and cigarettes, but also with broken glass, bottles and litter - which can all start accidental fires in the tinder dry conditions at the moment.

An amber heat warning is in place across much of the UK until Sunday - but doesn't even reach as far up as Teesside or County Durham.
