Wave of fines for illegally parked cars at Middlesbrough football game

A fresh warning has been sounded to football fans after more than 70 cars were hit with penalty notices following Boro’s latest home game.

Fans are being reminded to park legally in future or risk a fine for endangering public safety.

It’s the latest in a series of calls to supporters heading to the Riverside Stadium on matchdays to be considerate in their parking.

Warning notices for issues including illegal parking on grass verges, footpaths, central reservations, roundabouts and particularly dangerously by slip roads have now given way to Penalty Charge Notices (PCN).

During Saturday’s home game against Blackburn, enforcement officers issued 76 PCNs to vehicles on roads around the Riverside Stadium.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said:

“The number of illegally and dangerously parked cars has reduced, but there are still too many and we will continue to take enforcement action to stamp out the problem.

“Such parking is completely unnecessary, is a danger to the public and is completely unacceptable.

“We would appeal again to supporters heading to the stadium to make use of one of Middlesbrough’s many public car parks or travel on public transport and avoid causing a danger to fellow match-goers.”
