Eileen Brennan, who lived locally, died after the bus left the road on Thursday
Durham Police are asking any witnesses to come forward as the investigation continues.
The driver of a bus has now been released on bail.
The 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until mid-August pending further investigation.
Eileen was died after the number 2 bus to Redhall crashed into Halfax bank on Northgate on Thursday morning.
Two pedestrians were also injured and taken to hospital.
A local man, who received minor injuries, was treated at Darlington Memorial Hospital and has been discharged.
Another pedestrian, a woman from Darlington was more seriously injusted and remains in James Cook Hospital in a stable condition.
Chief Inspector Graham Milne, said: "We would like to reiterate what was said yesterday, our sympathy and thoughts remain with the lady's family and friends and the wider community who witnessed this horrific incident.
"I would personally like to thank the businesses in the area who assisted the emergency services during the incident and the public who have come forward and spoken to us. All of this has helped us greatly piece together the circumstances of this collision."
