Two Teesside beaches will fly Seaside Awards flags again this summer
Saltburn and Redcar have won prestigious Keep Britain Tidy awards
Two beaches in Redcar & Cleveland will fly Seaside Awards flags this summer.
It's after the beaches at Saltburn and Redcar have once again won prestigious Keep Britain Tidy awards.
They've been given Seaside Awards in the 37th year of the awards, meaning they have met high standards for cleanliness, safety and water quality.
Among the criteria beaches are assessed against are:
• Safety and services, such as first aid, lifeguards where necessary
• Environmental information
• Environmental management, including litter and waste.
Cllr Carrie Richardson, Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture, said:
“This is wonderful news. Our beautiful beaches have been loved by people from across the country for generations and are extremely important for our tourism industry - so it is essential that very high standards are maintained.
"I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in maintaining and developing our beaches. These awards are well deserved.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said:
“These awards are a credit to the collective efforts of beach managers, volunteers, residents and businesses who have worked tirelessly to maintain, protect and improve some of our best-loved and most popular beaches and we’d like to take this moment to recognise and applaud them.”
