A new study shows the critical nature of the issue of vulnerable people.

One in three people in the North East identify as vulnerable while one in five do not have enough savings to cover an unexpected bill of £300.

Nearly one in twenty of those surveyed said they have been worried about money most days in the last month and haven’t had enough money to cover their basic needs.

Lucy, whose name we’ve changed, moved to the North East when she escaped an abusive relationship.

She said:

"It's been hard, it's been three years since I left but I'm still trying to rebuild out life. It's like one step forwards, 10 steps back."

"The kids weren't spoilt but they had a decent standard of living and its heart breaking that I can't even give them a bed now... They had mismatched carpet and tiles on the floor because it was better than a cold floor... But they can't invite their friends round. They won't have sleepovers. They're embarrassed now."
