Over a third of dogs are not having their health needs met

PDSA are offering free dog MOTs in Middlesbrough over the next week

Over a third of dogs in the UK are not having their health needs met by their owners.

A report by pet charity PDSA found awareness around pet laws in the UK is at an all time low, meaning millions of pets could be going without essential care.

The charity is bringing it's pet wellbeing tour to Teesside next week, as it holds a number of events in Middlesbrough.

PDSA vet nurses will be on board the PetCheck vehicles, which travel the UK carrying out free health, checks, microchipping and providing expert pet care advice.

PDSA Vet Nurse Tina Scrafton will run through PDSA’s ‘PetWise MOT’ for each dog, which assesses each of the five welfare needs: diet, environment, companionship, behaviour and health.

Additional services including nail clipping and ear cleaning are also available free of charge, although donations are welcome.

Microchipping, which will become mandatory for dogs on 6 April 2016, is available for a small cost.

Tina said: “We know people love their pets and want the best for them, which is why we’re here to help.

"By offering free, friendly advice and support, we can help owners make small changes that can often make a big difference to the wellbeing of pets in Middlesbrough.”

They will be at the following locations:

  • Monday 21 Mar, 10am-5pm – Hemlington Recreation Centre, Cass House Road - Tuesday 22 Mar, 10am-5pm – Albert Park, Linthorpe Road - Wednesday 23 Mar, 10am-5pm – North Ormesby Market Place, North Ormesby - Thursday 24 Mar, 9am-4pm – Stewart Park, Ladgate Lane
