Overwhelming decision across our region

Published 24th Jun 2016

TEESSIDE has voted overwhelmingly for the UK to leave the European Union.

And the rest of the UK has followed - we've voted to LEAVE the European Union.

Listen to our 1 o'clock special here:

A at the begining of the count last night it was a different picture - all eyes were on the North East - Newcastle were the first in the UK to declare...

That was a very, very tight victory for remain - at that point projections believed the UK was going to vote to stay in the EU.

Shortly after though the Sunderland count came in, and that was a MASSIVE win for Leave - by a margin of more than 30 thousand votes

As the results trickled in from across our region the picture on Teesside became clearer.

Each borough in our region voted by more than 60% in favour of Leave.

Our reporter Hannah Smith is out and about in Teesside for us.
