Teesside travellers urged share happy commute stories
Having well-deserved 'me' time, chatting with friends and spotting rare wildlife are just some of the commuting highlights submitted.
People across Teesside are being asked to share their happy commuting stories in a bid to get more of us using sustainable travel.
It's part of a new project launched by Local Motion and Connect Tees Valley, who promote the area's sustainable transport programmes.
'Commute Yourself Happy' invites those who walk, cycle or use public transport to share their happy moments while travelling.
Campaigners hope it will help more people in the region consider the positives to not using their cars everywhere.
So far, the team have received stories from people about seeing rare wildlife, witnessing a marriage proposal and rekindling old friendships.
The biggest benefit reported by public transport users is the relaxation and 'me time' experienced en route.
Georgina Burke is Local Motion's Marketing and Communications Officer, she said: "It not just about getting from A to B.
"There's more to catching a bus than waiting at the bus stop, there's all the other experiences that come along with that.
"The time that you get to go through your emails on the phone, it's the time you get to chat to the people on the bus next to you.
"We've had a recent story from a lady who gets the bus from Middlesbrough to Stockton and she struck up a friendship with a lady on the bus.
"Now they're firm friends and they socialise together and they're even talking about going on holiday together."
