Teesside students urged 'not to panic' on A Level results day
Universities across the country say they're on hand to help with clearing
Students in Teesside are being urged not to panic as they find out their A Level results today.
Most colleges and schools will be releasing grades from 8am.
Many higher education places say they are ready to help with clearing.
David Hudson, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing at Teesside University, said: "We're here from 8 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock at night to provide that advice and guidance. We've got places available across most of our provision, which is fantastic and it gives people options to study. You name it, there's likely to be a course at Teesside and if not, there's definitely a course for you somewhere in the country.
"Clearing is a time where you've got a multitude of different types of applicants interested in courses, some entering the whole process for the first time and others who have got their results and done better, worse, the same and actually over the time have considered their route has changed. Often those skills that they've learned at Level 3 are very, very transferable across a range of different subjects.
"It's a very significant commitment both in time and money for students to study a degree, so getting that decision correct is really, really important. I would say don't rush into a course just because you've already applied and have been accepted. If you decide that actually there's a change that you'd like to make then call up and we'll certainly be able to advise you.
"For various cicumstances, the results that students are picking up might not be their best efforts. I think it's really important for students who know that they can achieve at higher education not to give up, because we've had students coming in for various circumstances with relatively low grades, and we've been able to teach them over a three or four year period so they're going out with a 2:1 or a first.
"Teesside is one of the most friendliest and welcoming places I've ever been. I've lived in the area now for 15 years and I wouldn't consider myself going anywhere else. We've got a fantastic town in Middlesbrough, we've got brilliant links out to the coast and to cities. Most importantly, we've got a fantastic track record of getting students to achieve their potential."
