Teenager dies after swimming at High Force

A 16-year-old boy was pulled from the water just before 10pm and taken to James Cook Hospital where he later died.

A 16-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty whilst swimming at High Force in Teesdale.

The teenager from Hartlepool got into trouble at 8pm last night, while swimming in the water pool at the base of the water fall.

Police, fire crews, mountain rescue and air support all helped in the search for him.

He was located just before 10pm and airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he later died.

Five other teenagers, three boys and two girls, who had been with the boy, were not injured.
