Tata bids show steel industy 'could survive'
The company is selling their entire UK business, including Hartlepool steel mill, where over 500 are employed.
Hundreds of Teesside jobs hang in the balance today as Tata Steel consider the bids they've received for their UK plants.
The firm are selling off their entire UK business, including Hartlepool steel mill, where over 500 people are employed.
They've received seven 'expressions of interest' to consider.
One former working is hoping they'll take their time.
Rob Middlemas is union rep at the Skinningrove plant and says Tata have handled the sale well so far.
He said:
"I think Tata are trying to find a responsbile buyer and not just sell it to the first person who pitches up.
"There's a responsbility to the workforce who've stayed loyal for many years.
"They are taking their time and looking at all serious bids.
"If there's seven other buyers, that tells you that the industry will pick up and it's got to turn around at some stage.
"There's obviously enough investors believe that steel is very much in demand."
