Police have seized 10,000 tablets and arrested two people in Middlesbrough after intercepting a package suspected of containing Class A drugs.

Acting on information provided by the UK Border Agency, Middlesbrough’s neighbourhood policing team tracked a large package to an address in the Berwick Hills area.

Following a search of the property, they recovered and seized 10,000 tablets, including Zopiclone and Gabapentin, which are classified as controlled drugs.

A 54-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of importing controlled drugs.

Both were questioned by officers and have since been released on conditional bail as the investigation continues.
