Students campaign to highlight Teesside steel industry
A group of students from Teesside have formed a new photo campaign to 'pay tribute' to former steelworkers.
Students from Teesside University have launched a campaign to highlight the impact the region's steel had on the world.
Their photo campaign, Northern Powerhouse, showcases just how many famous world landmarks are made from Teesside steel.
They've removed famous Teesside-made sites from photographs to remind us how many wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the region's works.
Journalism student Mark Riding says they wanted to give something back to former workers.
He said: "We wanted to make a tribute, to try and say through pictures that we remember you.
"Thank you for everything you've done and you should be proud, you may have lost your job but there's a lot of people behind you."
The group are now hoping to show their work at a gallery hosted by Redcar and Cleveland Council.
They already have the support of Redcar MP Anna Turley.
Robert Sedgewick helped create the pictures, he said: "I think it doesn't really hit people how important steel is until they see local areas without landmarks created with the steel.
"It doesn't quite home until you see the space that's there without it."
