Two men have been handed prison sentences amounting to nearly 14 years at Teesside Crown Court today following a knife point robbery.

Jay Bryson, 28, from Stockton and Brandon Dalkin, 23, of no fixed abode have both been sentenced to six years and 8 months in prison after robbing a boy, 14, and a male, 21, at Stillington Pond in Stockton in 2019.

The two males approached a 14-year-old boy, threatened him with a 9-inch knife and stole a gold ring worth hundreds of pounds. During the robbery, the boy approached a male, 21, who was fishing close by and asked him for help.

The male offered to give Bryson and Dalkin his mobile phone if they left the 14-year-old alone, and this resulted in him being threatened with the knife, and they stole his phone and bank cards.

Officers arrested both the males close to the scene within minutes of the incident being reported.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Lindsay Davidson said:

Both victims have suffered significant trauma as a result of this incident resulting in one of them receiving counselling and the other has been too scared to go fishing again.

The actions of Dalkin and Bryson were terrifying and extremely violent, resulting in psychological harm to both the victims.

To make matters worse, Dalkin was also found guilty of witness intimidation and perverting the course of justice after phone work conducted by myself highlighted that he had been threatening and intimidating the boy into not giving evidence.

This resulted in a delayed trial and both victims have had to wait years for the males to be sentenced. I hope the wait was worth it, as Dalkin and Bryson have both been handed lengthy sentences which they both deserve.

Cleveland Police will not tolerate knife crime under any circumstances and the sentences today are a clear example that you will be brought to justice for this level of crime.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank both victims for their bravery throughout the incident and the court process. The 21-year-old male has been commended by the judge for his bravery for defending the boy as his actions were heroic.

Cleveland Police also confirmed that Bryson was given a further 2 years in prison for committing an assault whilst on bail for the robbery.
