Stockton Council show racism the red card.
COUNCILLORS from across Stockton Borough are standing together in support of Show Racism the Red Card’s ‘Wear Red’ day of fundraising.
Stockton Town Centre and Riverside were awash with red as the town’s unique event lighting was specially programmed to change colour in support of the campaign.
The anti-racism educational charity uses the high-profile of football and players to help tackle racism in society and delivers training to more than 50,000 people every year.
The councillors were joined by ex-Middlesbrough FC star Curtis Fleming and David Foster from the charity at the fountains on Stockton High Street.
Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to get behind this worthy campaign as a Council and show that we stand united against all forms of racism.
“The charity has done marvellous work in combating racism over the years and this has been mirrored by the great work done in Stockton Borough led by Councillor Norma Stephenson and I’d like to thank her for helping to organise this event.
“We’re asking everyone to wear something red on Friday 21 October and to give a small donation if they can. The fundraising will help Show Racism the Red Card to continue to deliver their awareness raising and anti-racism education here in Stockton Borough and across the United Kingdom.”
