Stockton charity donates sanitary products to women in poverty

Some women in Teesside don't have enough money to buy sanitary products during their period.

That's the message from Stockton charity Together, who collect sanitary items and donate them to women in poverty.

They say some women have to make the choice whether or not they can afford to buy tampons and pads.

The charity have set up two drop off points in the town for the donation of toiletries and sanitary products.

Donation boxes at Five Lamps in Dovecot Street and Five Lamps at South Thornaby Community and Resource Centre.

Dianne Hewitt set up the charity with friends after she noticed a lack of toiletries donated to foodbanks.

She said: "It's a huge issue for women in poverty.

"If it's a choice between feeding your kids or buying sanitary products, then you feed your kids.

It's about having some dignity."
