Seven teenagers to stand trial for murder of Shane Tunney

A jury has been sworn in at Teesside Crown Court and trial is predicted to last between four to six weeks.

Seven teenagers will appear in Teesside Crown Court today accused of murdering Norton man Shane Tunney.

A jury was sworn in yesterday and opening statements from the prosecution are scheduled to be made to the court today.

Two of the accused have turned 18 since they were charged, meaning their identities can be revealed.

Jake Douglas, of Esk Road, Norton and Kearan Terry Davis, of Trent Street, Norton are accused alongside five other teenagers of killing the 24-year-old in an alleged attack on Norton High Street.

The other 18-year-olds on trial are Keiron Harry Davis, of Holme House Road and Brandon Pitt, of Tithe Barn Road, Hardwick.

Two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old are also accused but can't be named for legal reasons.

They're all accused of the murder of Shane Tunney, as well as attempting to cause grievous bodily harm against another man that night.

The jury, made up of men and women from Stockton, was sworn in yesterday, after they were asked if they had been influenced by another about the story on social media.

The prosecution will open their case tomorrow, led by prosecutor Andrew Stubbs QC.
