Second man arrested in connection to a collision in Middlesbrough

A man, 37, is in a critical condition after being knocked off his bike

A 20-year-old man who was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into an incident whereby a man suffered serious injuries has been bailed with conditions, whilst enquiries continue.

A second man, who is 28 years old, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has also been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

The incident happened around 9:05pm on Saturday 21st August on Homerton Road/Gribdale Road when a man and woman, who were riding pedal cycles, suffered injuries when they were reportedly hit by a white Vauxhall Insignia.

A 37-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A 24-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital following treatment.

The Vauxhall Insignia did not stop at the scene.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses, or anyone with dash cam footage or CCTV of the incident or the white Vauxhall Insignia in the area around the time of the collision, to get in touch.
