River Tees remains on flood alert with more heavy rain on the way
The Environment Agency says most flood gates around Yarm and those in Croft should remain open this evening.
The Environment Agency say despite more heavy rain expected this afternoon, Teesside should miss the worst of expected flooding.
Flood gates at Yarm and Croft were closed last night, but most have been reopened this morning.
Alerts are still in place for the River Tees from Middleton St George to the Barrage, and in Teesdale and Croft.
With more heavy rain expected overnight it's believed river levels will continue to rise, but the flood gates should remain open.
Environment Agency Duty Manager Graeme Warren said: "This rainfall is generally across the North as a whole.
"We're expecting most of the worst rain to be in the north of the North East.
"We're monitoring this very carefully and we'll have our incident room open 24 hours a day should that be necessary."
