A man's been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping a woman in a Middlesbrough hotel.

Earlier this month, 47-year-old Leon Germaine Worsfold, from Middlesbrough, was convicted of rape and sexual assault on a woman aged in her thirties, which took place in March 2022.

Following a full and thorough investigation by Cleveland Police's Major Enquiry Team, Worsfold was charged and appearing at Teesside Crown Court today, Friday 31st May, Worsfold was sentenced to nine years in prison for the attack.

Detective Inspector Matt Hollingsworth said: “Leon Worsfold attacked a vulnerable woman. He assaulted and raped her; and at court he continued to deny the incident, meaning the victim had to relive the ordeal and give evidence.

“I would like to thank the woman for her bravery and for her unwavering strength throughout the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.

“Anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter the length of time, is urged to report it to police. We will not tolerate violence of this nature and we will continue to put perpetrators before the courts.”
