As prom season gets underway, we have been hearing from parents across the North East who have spent up to £1500 on outfits!

So we set our reporters at Metro and TFM radio the challenge of finding a prom look on a budget.

Charlotte Murphy met Newcastle fashion blogger Louisa Rogers, and they hit the shops;

Next up it was Ellie Kumar from TFM, who went to Teesside Park with Middlesbrough lifestyle and fashion blogger Megan Jane Lillie. Here is how they did;

So the results show Charlotte and the Metro team came in with the prize at just £19.50 in total – but both go to show you can definitely find a prom look on a budget.

We also spoke to Oxfam in Darlington, who have a huge range of donated dresses – many have only been worn once, and some even have the tags still on;
