Police in Middlesbrough charge man with rape

A man has been charged by police investigating a serious sexual assault in Middlesbrough.

The 30 year old is accused of raping a woman in the town's Albert Park early on Wednesday 11th September.

Police received reports of an incident there at around 4am.

The victim of the alleged attack is being supported by specialist officers.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said:

"A 30-year-old man has been charged with rape and has been detained in police custody until he appears at Teesside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Monday 16th September).

"This follows enquiries by Middlesbrough CID into a report of an incident in Albert Park in the town in the early hours of Wednesday morning."
