Police appeal for information after a report of a taxi robbery in Redcar

Police are appealing for information and dashcam footage after a report of robbery where a taxi has been reported as stolen, in Redcar.

The incident happened at around 8.20pm on Saturday 5th February, in the Wilton Street area of Redcar.

A taxi driver picked up four male passengers in the Lord Street area. After noticing the vehicle, a Black Skoda Octavia, had a flat tyre the driver stopped on Wilton Street near to Morrisons where three of the unknown males offered to help the driver to change the tyre.

The fourth unknown male then reportedly grabbed the driver and dragged her from the vehicle, before getting in the driver’s seat and making off in the direction of West Dyke Road.

The remaining three males made off in the direction of Redcar High Street.

The vehicle was later recovered from Rydal Avenue in the Grangetown area.

Police would appeal for anyone who has information or dashcam footage from the area of Lord Street, Wilton Street and West Dyke Road on Saturday 5th February between 8.15pm and 8.30pm to call 101, reference 020530.
