Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after an incident in Hartlepool which led to a woman receiving injuries, believed to have been caused when a vehicle drove at her.

The incident happened around midnight on Sunday 14th March into Monday 15th March, when a blue Volkswagen Polo was followed by another vehicle, a white Vauxhall Corsa along Wynyard Road, turning onto Catcote Road and then onto Rossmere Way, where the Corsa rammed into the Polo at the junction of Ardrossan Way.

The passenger in the Polo, a 39-year-old woman, got out of the vehicle before it was driven away.

The Corsa is then believed to have drove at the woman, causing her to fall to the floor and leaving her with fractures to her lower spine and facial injuries. She was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, before later being released.

A man then got out of the Corsa and assaulted the woman with a blunt weapon, before getting back into the car and driving away.

A 41-year-old man and a 27-year-old man who were both arrested yesterday (Monday 15th March) in connection with the incident, have been released without charge.

A 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent and has been released on bail with conditions, whilst enquiries continue.

Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Brown from Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number 040133.
