The family of murdered Norton man Shane Tunney say the sentences handed to his killers are an 'insult to his memory'.

His girlfriend Vix Cooper has set up a petition calling for harsher prison terms for the seven teenagers found guilty of killing the 24-year-old.

18-year-old cousins Kearan Terry Davis and Kieran Harry Davis were sentenced to 15 and 13 years respectively for Shane's murder.

Five teenagers were sentenced for manslaughter.

18-year-old Jake Douglas received a 4.5 year sentence, as did 18-year-old Daniel Hunt.

18-year-old Brandon Pitt was sentenced to 7 years.

A 17-year-old, who can't be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for manslaughter.

A 16-year-old who also can't be named, was sentenced to 3 years for manslaughter.

The petition says:

"This is not something that has just affected the victims and families, it has affected innocent witnesses who now have the emotional trauma of witnessing such an ordeal of a brutal attack.

"A community now has to live in fear of when they return as some could be out as soon as a years time.

"We hope with the support of local people we can show that it is more than those emotionally involved that justice has not been served, as the family will always feel that way as nothing will bring Shane back."

Shane's girlfriend Vix spoke to TFM about the petition and said:

"They committed an adult crime and I appreciate the fact that they're juveniles, but they knew what they were doing.

"They can hid behind the fact that they're juveniles and hide behind their immaturity, to me that's not an explanation for why they shouldn't get more for what they've done.

"Shane was an upstanding citizen, he never had a problem with the police, he never had any trouble with anybody, he was one of the kindest people.

"It feels as if it's an insult to his memory for them to get so low of a sentence."
