Animal charity PETA have rushed into Middlesbrough schools after three teenagers are alleged to have kicked a cat to death.

Three boys were reportedly seen viciously kicking the cat at 11pm on Friday 19th August near the Recreation Centre on Cass House Road in Hemlington.

The cat, called Crumble, was severely injured and was found gasping for air nearby.

His injuries were so severe, he was put to sleep.

Cleveland Police are investigating the attack and PETA have rushed into schools in the area to hand out education packs to prevent future cruelty.

Letters have also been written to headteachers to encourage anti-cruelty measures are taken.

PETA Director Elisa Allen said: "PETA wants to prevent any further acts of cruelty.

"Instilling empathy in children and teaching them to respect others, human and non-human alike, is vital. The safety of the whole community depends on it."

Anyone with any information about Crumble's death are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
