People in Teesside told 'it's never too late' to start improving your health

Many might be thinking 'new year, new me'

There could be a huge demand in people joining gyms or local sporting clubs across Teesside this month.

It is as many may think 'new year, new me' and look to exercise more and be healthier, after indulging over the festive period.

Vicky Fawcett has been a run leader for 14 years, and has been managing Stockton's 'Sisters Are Doing It' running groups for the last eight years.

She said: "We do find that throughout the year a lot of people do tend to participate and what to start running, but we do find we have a massive increase in January with people wanting to exercise and participate in different activities in general.

"For me, it's finding something that you really enjoy doing so it doesn't become a chore and then to get into a routine and also to set off slowly, don't go diving in and expecting too much from yourself either and set realistic goals as well. Do it with some friends.

"It's never too late to start at any time of the year to be honest, but I think a lot of people do tend to think about their own health and wellbeing after Christmas, so January is a great time to start especially if you're not sure where to go or what to do. There's loads of different gyms you can join.

"I think sometimes people are a little bit put off and they just think 'oh, I'm not good enough' or 'I'm not fit enough to go to running clubs or participate in any form of running', but we have such a variety of clubs and groups out there."
