Pensioner dies after being found in the middle of a road on Christmas Day
A pensioner has died after being found in the middle of a Stockton road just after midnight on Christmas Day.
The man - who was in his seventies - was found lying on Darlington Lane at its junction with Rochester Road.
A member of the public, who police have since spoken to, called an ambulance which took the man to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, but he sadly died.
The death is not currently being treated as suspicious.
Police are now hoping to speak to an Asian taxi driver who attempted, with the help of a male passenger, to move the man off the road to help him.
They also want to talk to a man and a woman, who was believed to be dressed in pyjamas, who brought a jumper or blanket to cover the man while they waited for paramedics. The couple are believed to live locally.
Detective Inspector Jim Allen said: “At this stage we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding this gentleman’s death but to help with Coroner inquiries we would urge the people who were kind enough to try to help the man to come forward to tell us what they know.”
Anyone with information should contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.
