Operation Launched in Yarm by Stockton Officers over Festive Period
Stockton officers from Response and Neighbourhoods have launched an operation to reduce antisocial behaviour and crime during the busy night-time Christmas period in Yarm.
Operation Leven will run every weekend until the New Year, whereby officers will conduct checks of licensed premises, carry out stop and search checks and engage with the public to ensure a safe, night-time festive period for everyone.
Stockton Response Acting Inspector Roger Millward said: “The operation started at the end of November and so far it has been successful. The first weekend of the launch a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and for assaulting an emergency worker.
“Last weekend a male aged 53 was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and a 25-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
“It is important that we work with the management of licensed premises, door staff and the local council to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves over the busy Christmas and New Year period without crime and antisocial behaviour spoiling it for people.
“There will be a police presence every weekend in the area of Yarm High Street and we would encourage anyone who has concerns or issues to approach the officers for assistance.”
Councillor Norma Stephenson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety, said: “We want everyone to enjoy themselves this Christmas and not have their fun spoilt by anti-social behaviour and crime.
“Though Yarm usually has one of the lowest rates of anti-social behaviour in the Borough, our community safety and regulatory teams including Licensing Officers will be working alongside the police and will continue to patrol the area during the busy festive period in the town.”
