One year since new security scanners installed at Teesside Airport
The aim is to speed up the security process
It is one year today since Teesside International Airport became the UK's first to install new scanners to speed up the security process.
People are allowed to carry up to two litres of liquid, without putting it in a clear plastic bag, inside your hand luggage.
Electrical items also do not need to be taken out.
Kristian Hodgson, head of security, said: "We've been trialling the new technology for a while and we then went live a year ago today. You would see an ease of transit that you're probably not used to at other airports, so the ability to carry liquids up to two litres and leave them in your hand baggage when they go through, to leave large electrical items within your hand baggage, you don't have to take them out anymore to have them screened separately.
"Putting customers at ease is wonderful because the new technology has that greater security level where it's detecting more than it was before. The officers are really helpful using it and they're really good at using this new technology.
"With the passenger process through, it means they'll have a really smooth transition and our feedback when it comes to a happiness factor when they go through has greatly improved. Most of the passengers that we speak too enjoy the new technology and are looking forward to it being rolled out across other airports."
