North East Mumpreneurs Boosting UK Economy

Published 5th Aug 2015

A Durham mum is urging others to start up a business - as new stats show they're becoming a powerful economic force in the UK.

Mumpreneurs brought in over £7billion. That’s supporting more than 204 thousand jobs and adding 30% to the UK economy since 2011.

Michelle Jones, 33, from Durham, set up a baby boutique website when she was pregnant last year.

Freya-Lillie – named after her daughter – sells baby clothes, gifts and skin care for children up to the age of six.

She told telling other mums that it can be a reality and they should go for it.

Michelle said:

“Anyone can do it, there’s no such thing as I can’t do it. There is so much free help out there as well so if you do have a dream and you do want to start a business then it can be a reality. Get out there and give it your best.”

“It’s certainly not easy, it’s a lot harder and more time consuming than I thought it would be. You just have to be so organised. I have everything planned to a T – I even organise what meals we’re having during the week just so that I can fit everything in.”
