A new service to help victims of crime in North Yorkshire’s been announced.

It will be where people can get support and updates at the centre in York, or over the phone and online.

The service is due to start in April.

North Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan says it is as well as investments in four new specialist services last year.

At present, most victims are referred by North Yorkshire Police to Victim Support in Wakefield.

As part of the new arrangements based in York, improved and expanded services will be available, particularly to vulnerable and repeat victims.

In addition, the new unit will help people who have been victims of a greater range of crimes than is currently the case.

Julia Mulligan said: “I am determined to provide a better service for victims of crime in North Yorkshire. This new unit is an important step in reshaping local services and comes on top of a significant expansion in support for our most vulnerable victims, including children, last year."
