New Service For Hard Of Hearing In Kilmarnock
A superb new drop-in service offering support, advice and guidance for elderly people who wear a hearing aid has been launched in Kilmarnock.
The free sessions are run by volunteers through the Ayrshire charity, Sensory Impaired Support Group (SISG) on the second Friday of each month at Meeting Room 2, Johnnie Walker Bond, Kilmarnock (2pm-3.30pm)
At each session, visitors can take advantage of a range of support and advice services – from practical help such as new batteries, to mould cleaning and tube replacement.
Welcoming SISG to Kilmarnock, Councillor Tom Cook, Spokesperson for Improving Community Safety and Equalities said: “SISG are well known across Ayrshire for the superb services they offer, free of charge, to a large number of people who need support with a sensory impairment.
“Their network is well supported by a team of dedicated and hard working volunteers and I’m delighted they can now offer their valuable and important services to residents in the Kilmarnock area – it’s a real pleasure to welcome them.”
SISG Manager Denise McClung said: “I’m so pleased we can widen our drop-in sessions to include Kilmarnock and provide a unique free practical and support service for hearing impaired elderly individuals.
“Not only will the service help them manage their condition, it can also improve their quality of life by bringing them out of isolation, with a friendly helping hand and a sympathetic listener on hand to support and assist.”
Councillor Cook concluded: “I’d encourage all residents who might know an elderly person who wears a hearing aid, to go along to the SISG drop-in service and take full advantage of this excellent initiative.”
