Katie Price calls on MPs for more protection against online abuse

TV star Katie Price has faced MPs as she calls for more to be done to tackle the problem of online abuse.

It comes after we launched our Sticks and Stones campaign last year, calling for online bullying lessons in every school.

Katie's petition calling for more action reached more than 220,000 signatures.

Speaking in front of Parliament's Petitions Committee, she said:

"It's a joke, and although I've tried everything I can - I've gone to the police, I've reported people - nothing has been done and it's still continuing and getting worse and worse.

"For my petition, in one week, I got 220,000 signatures. A lot of them people said 'we're not fans of yours, we don't like you, but what you're doing, we think is amazing' because it will genuinely help a lot of people."

Callum Carr founded South Tyneside Against Bullying after going through online abuse himself - he'll be heading to Parliament as well later.

He said:

"I will attend the evidence session on Tuesday in parliament in a bid to see the right outcome for millions of people trolled every year online.

"The abuse that Katie’s son Harvey has encountered is utterly disgusting and those responsible need to be held accountable, without making online abuse a criminal offence those who seek to troll and abuse people online will not be reprimanded fully.”
