There's concerns GP surgeries aren't getting enough supplies of the Coronavirus Vaccines - leading to vulnerable people having to wait for the jab
There's concerns GP surgeries aren't getting enough supplies of the Coronavirus Vaccines - leading to vulnerable people having to wait for the jab.
We have heard stories from elderly people who have been called to get their Covid-19 vaccine, but; hours before the appointment, being told not to come as the surgery has run out.
One 90 year old lady from County Durham, who didn't want to be named, tells us it's frightening;
"I should be priority really, with my age,
"I mean, when you put the news on it's worrying - you know.
"I'm not 21, I'm 90!"
She said it is worrying - as she still has to do her shopping and go outside - but feels like she might be more at risk of catching Covid-19 now,
"I was all ready - I was disappointed, I want it!
"I was so looking forward to getting it - to be safe.
"Now the Prime Minister comes on the telly - 'you must, you must, you must have the jab...'
"He's had it though!"
We also heard how one elderly woman from Sunderland is now having to travel to Newcastle's Centre for Life after her local surgery ran out too.
Dr George Rae is the North East chair of the BMA - and a GP in Whitley Bay - he explains there have been teething problems in the roll out;
"We've never seen a mass roll out like this, and we've never been confronted with this virus before,
"Unfortunately what has happened is information has changed - sometimes from day to day - certainly from week to week."
Dr Rae is reassuring the public that efforts are being ramped up vaccinate high risk patients though;
"Rules changed about 2 to 3 weeks ago by the Chief Medical Officer - the one positive thing we would actually say is that we are way ahead of any of the other European countries as far as starting to vaccinate our population."
We are being reminded that your GP will contact you when it's your turn to get the Covid-19 vaccination and please do not call them to ask about it.
We are also being reminded that you will not be contacted via text or email - or asked to give ANY financial, card or bank details in relation to the vaccine, as there have been reports of scams targeting vulnerable people.
