A Linthorpe teenager says he feels incredibly lucky after a sign outside a Middlesbrough night club came crashing down in high winds.

Connor Mullan was outside Bar Cuda on Albert Road in Middlesbrough in the early hours of Saturday morning when the club's sign fell into the street below, hitting him.

The 18-year-old suffered bruising to his left foot and was treated by staff at neighbouring Safe Haven.

He told TFM: "I didn't know what actually happened, but I saw it bounce off my foot.

"It scraped down my jeans and I thought had that been a bit further in, it would have hit my head.

"It could have been a lot worse."

Pieces of the sign continued to rain into the street, before police were called to cordon off the area.

Fire crews attempted to remove the remaining part of the sign for safety, but were unable to do so.

Albert Road remains closed to the public as high winds continue to batter the building.
