The NSPCC in Middlesbrough say they're not abandoning children in the region, as its centre there closes its doors for the final time.

The centre on Park Road South delivered the charitys Family Smile programme, to support children whose parents have mental health problems.

Eight people will be made redundant, with the charity saying they're planning to focus more on their in-school projects.

An NSPCC spokesperson told us they will continue to support parents and children in the Teesside area.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “The NSPCC is there for millions of children across the UK and has provided support and help when they need it most.

"We want to reach five million children by 2021 and make sure stopping child abuse is everyone’s business, but the way we work is changing. “This decision follows a review of the number of bases we need to deliver our strategy.

"But we are not abandoning anywhere, our expanded schools service, helplines and products for parents mean we will be there for even more children who need our support.”

The charity say their new plans will help them reach 20,000 children in Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland by the end of 2016/17.
