Middlesbrough MP takes Teesside's job losses to Parliament
Middlesbrough and East Cleveland MP Tom Blenkinsop says it's essential the government take action now.
The region's job problems will be highlighed in a debate in Parliament this morning as a Teesside MP says all redundancies should be helped the same.
Middlesbrough and East Cleveland MP Tom Blenkinsop scheduled a debate at Westminster Hall in a bid to get the government to provide more funding for the Task Force.
Thousands lost their jobs at SSI's Redcar plant in October, and recent job cuts at HMRC offices in Middlesbrough and Boulby Ash Mine have also rocked the region.
Tom hopes the government will step in and provide more funding, so retraining opportunities can also be offered to workers from the mine and tax offices, so the Task Force aren't left helping some but not the other.
He said: "They could be from the same family or living in the same road or in the same town or village.
"For me to be able to help one and not the other via government funding is wrong and puts us in an invidious position.
"It also fails to take into account of the wider economic fallout in the area."
