Middlesbrough neighbourhood officers in conjunction with Middlesbrough council have secured A closure order for a property for three months, after allegations of drug dealing and antisocial behaviour.

Multiple calls were received to the authorities about alleged incidents at the property on Selbourne Street.

At a hearing at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday 12th August, a closure order for a period of three months was granted and officers attended on Friday 13th August to ensure that the tenant, a woman aged in her fifties, had left the address.

Officers presented information to the court that between January and July 2021, there had been 30 instances of alleged drug dealing of crack cocaine at the address and people arriving at all hours of the day and night on foot, bikes and taxis to be supplied at the front door and through the letterbox.

A drug warrants executed by officers at the address in May resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, suspected class C drugs and drugs paraphernalia and a further warrant carried out in June found multiple weapons in the address alongside more drugs paraphernalia.

Middlesbrough Council also received a further 19 reports of drug dealing at the address.

Sergeant Steven Pattison, from Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, said: “We welcome the closure order, which should now give respite to the local community who have had to endure constant drug dealing and associate crime and antisocial behaviour at this address for a number of months.

“We have worked together with members of the public, Street Wardens, Neighbourhood Safety Officers and police to gather the information and intelligence needed to secure the order and show that, should anyone blight the lives of others in our communities, it will not be tolerated.”

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: “I am determined to protect decent people.

“If people cause problems and make the lives of those around them hell, then I want to see them kicked out and hopefully they move many miles away.

“We will do everything we can to chase troublemakers out of town.”
